"What colour?"
When we buy shirts,
When we pick the clothes to wear,
When we decide on the paint for the living room wall,
we ask this question.
How do you choose the colour?
A friend selects only colours that she likes.
Another friend picks any colours as long as they look harmonious for him.
The other friend goes with the list of colours selected by her colour consultant.
One of my artist friends consults the colour wheel.
I used to fear choosing bright, intense colours when I lived in Japan. I was comfortable with black, grey, brown, beige and navy blue; nothing else.
I moved to Australia. One day, I looked at my wardrobe - chilli red, scarlet red, sunshine yellow, gold yellow, orange-red, sky blue, cobalt blue, azure blue and violet. "What have I turned into?" I thought.
Black, grey and navy blue came back into my life after moving to London. Bright and intense colours disappeared over a few years.
I left the corporate job last year to become an artist.
Brick red, red, rose pink, magenta, burnt orange, straw yellow, mustard yellow, indigo blue, olive green, and violet are in my wardrobe now.
